What you get

A web banner design set, not one banner resized twelve times

Display campaigns in Dubai and the UAE place your ad on news sites, apps and blogs, in whatever slot is free. That means one message has to work in a long thin strip at the top of a page, a tall column beside an article, and a tiny bar at the bottom of a phone screen. Web banner design for Dubai advertisers is the production of that full set, to the technical limits the ad networks enforce.

Master layout

One approved design at a medium size that sets the headline, image, logo and button. Every other size follows it.

Full size set

Each size recomposed by hand. A leaderboard puts elements side by side; a skyscraper stacks them.

Built to weight

Files compressed to the network limit without making the text blurry or the logo muddy.

Standard sizes

IAB standard web banner design sizes and file weights

The IAB Technology Laboratory publishes a portfolio of fixed ad sizes that most publishers and ad servers recognise. It also recommends a maximum file weight for the first load of each ad, which is why we design lighter than you might expect.

IAB nameSize in pixelsMax initial load (IAB)Where it usually appears
Medium Rectangle300 × 250150 kBWithin articles and sidebars, desktop and mobile
Leaderboard728 × 90150 kBTop or bottom of desktop pages
Super Leaderboard or Pushdown970 × 90200 kBWide desktop headers
Billboard970 × 250250 kBProminent desktop placements above content
Skyscraper160 × 600150 kBDesktop side columns
Portrait300 × 1050250 kBTall desktop side placements
Smartphone Banner320 × 50 or 300 × 5050 kBTop or bottom of mobile screens and apps
Mobile Phone Interstitial640 × 1136, 750 × 1334 or 1080 × 1920300 kBFull screen between app or page views

The IAB guidance also asks that an ad be clearly distinguishable from the publisher’s own content, for example with a defined border, that audio stays muted unless the user starts it, and that the initial load makes no more than ten file requests.

Google Display Network

Google Ads file size limits for uploaded web banners

Web banner design for Dubai clients on Google Ads accepts two kinds of uploaded display ad, and each has a hard limit. Files over the limit are rejected at upload, so we check them before they leave us.

Image ads, static or animated, must be GIF, JPG or PNG and no larger than 150 KB. Animated image ads must run for 30 seconds or less, and Google specifies that animated GIFs must run slower than 5 frames per second.

HTML5 ads are uploaded as a ZIP file containing the HTML with any CSS, JavaScript and images, and the ZIP must be 600 KB or smaller.

If you would rather give Google images and headlines and let it assemble the ad, that is a responsive display ad, which is covered on our ad design page.

Sizes Google Ads accepts for uploaded banners

  • Square and rectangle: 200 × 200, 240 × 400, 250 × 250, 250 × 360, 300 × 250, 336 × 280, 580 × 400
  • Skyscraper: 120 × 600, 160 × 600, 300 × 600, 300 × 1050
  • Leaderboard: 468 × 60, 728 × 90, 930 × 180, 970 × 90, 970 × 250, 980 × 120
  • Mobile: 300 × 50, 320 × 50, 320 × 100

Craft

Design decisions that make small banners readable

Good web banner design for Dubai audiences starts small: a 320 × 50 banner gives you roughly the space of a line of text. Most of the work in a banner set is deciding what to leave out at each size.

Three elements, not six

Brand, one short message, one button. Supporting lines, badges and legal text go only into the sizes large enough to hold them.

Animation that ends well

A reader may scroll past before the sequence finishes, or catch only its resting state. We design that end frame first, so it works as a complete static ad on its own.

Arabic web banners

Arabic sets are recomposed right to left, with the logo and button moving to match reading order. Arabic text often needs more height at tiny sizes, so headlines are rewritten shorter rather than squeezed.

Retargeting variations

Visitors who have already seen your site need a different message from first time viewers. We build separate sets so your buyer can split them.

Tested at real size

A layout that looks sharp zoomed in on a large monitor can turn to mush at 300 × 50 on a phone. Every size is reviewed at its actual pixel dimensions on a real screen before approval.

Clearly an ad

Banners that imitate a news headline or a system alert may win a click but damage trust in the brand. Ours look like your brand advertising, framed so nobody mistakes them for the page.

Delivery

How banner sets are delivered to your Dubai media team

Web banner design delivery for Dubai teams is organised so whoever uploads the files does not have to open each one to know what it is.

  1. Master approval

You approve the master layout and the animation storyboard, if any, before other sizes are built.

  2. Size adaptation

Each size is recomposed and checked at actual pixel size, not zoomed in.

  3. Weight and specification check

Every file is measured against the limit for the network you named, and HTML5 packages are tested in a browser.

  4. Named delivery

Files named by campaign, language, size and version, with a static backup for every animated unit.

Banners work best when the page they click through to matches them. See landing page design, and for buying and optimising the placements, pay per click advertising or Google Ads management. All design services are listed on the design services hub.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need every size, or will a few do?

Start with the sizes that carry most of the inventory on the networks you buy, then add others once you see where impressions actually come from. Your media buyer's placement report is the best guide after the first week.

Static, GIF or HTML5: which should we choose?

Static is quickest and lightest, and suits most retargeting. Animated GIF or HTML5 is worth it when the message needs a sequence, such as before and after or a product reveal, and the network accepts it.

Can you supply banners for a publisher that is not Google?

Yes. Regional news sites, programmatic platforms and direct publisher deals each publish their own specification, and we build to that sheet instead.

How are banner sets quoted?

By the number of sizes, formats and languages, and whether animation is involved. You receive a fixed written quote, scoped to your brief, before work starts.
