Bilingual brand guidelines checklist for UAE businesses
What an Arabic and English brand guide must settle in writing so printers, developers and writers in the UAE apply it the same way.

A brand system that starts with positioning, carries a name through to a bilingual wordmark, and ends in guidelines clear enough for any printer, developer or new hire in the UAE to apply correctly.
Start with strategy
Brand identity design in Dubai has a particular challenge: most businesses sell to a mix of Emirati, Arab and expatriate customers, often in two scripts, across a market where dozens of competitors look almost identical. A logo on its own cannot solve that. What solves it is agreeing, in writing, who you are for, what you want to be known for and how that should feel, and then designing a system that expresses it consistently in Arabic and English.
That is why our brand identity design work for Dubai clients begins with a short strategy stage. It is not a long workshop series; it is the minimum thinking needed so that design choices can be judged against something other than personal taste.
Naming handoff
If a new name is part of the project, the most expensive mistake is designing around a name you cannot use. We treat naming and legal checks as a handoff with clear responsibilities.
Names are tested for meaning and pronunciation in Arabic and English, awkward readings in either language, and how they transliterate. A name that sounds right in English can carry an unfortunate meaning in Arabic, and the reverse.
The trade name goes through your licensing authority, mainland or free zone. For trademarks, the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism offers a registry enquiry service to find identical or similar marks already filed. The Ministry notes that an enquiry result does not mean a registration application will be accepted.
Only once the name is cleared does wordmark design begin. Filing a trademark is a legal step handled by you or a registered agent; our logo design page explains how the design files support it.
The system
In brand identity design, each part of a Dubai system answers a question someone will ask later, usually under deadline.
Primary logo, a compact symbol for avatars and app icons, and bilingual lockups for when both scripts appear together.
A Latin and an Arabic typeface chosen as a pair, with a hierarchy for headlines, body text and small print, plus licensing notes so fonts are used legally.
Primary and supporting colours with values for screen and print, tested for readable text combinations and for how they reproduce on common materials.
Patterns, shapes, icon style and grids that make materials recognisable even when the logo is small or absent.
What photography and illustration should show and avoid, so a stock image search or a shoot brief does not dilute the brand.
A short description of how the brand sounds in each language, enough for writers to start from. Full copy is a separate service.
Bilingual wordmarks
The W3C’s Arabic layout requirements describe why a letter by letter translation of an English logo fails. Arabic is written from right to left and is cursive: each letter can take up to four joining forms depending on its position, and there is no upper and lower case. A logo built on capital letter geometry therefore has no direct Arabic equivalent.
Instead we design the Arabic wordmark to share the Latin one’s weight, stroke contrast, proportions and spirit, while respecting how Arabic letters connect. Arabic also has its own ways of stretching words, such as kashida, which can help balance the two wordmarks’ widths when used with restraint.
Guidelines
In brand identity design, Dubai guidelines fail when they are a beautiful PDF nobody can find. We write them for the printer, the developer, the social media freelancer and the new marketing hire.
| Section | What it settles |
|---|---|
| Logo use | Clear space, minimum sizes, approved backgrounds and a page of misuse examples |
| Bilingual rules | When to use Arabic only, English only or both, and which language leads in each context |
| Colour values | Screen and print values for each colour, and which pairs are allowed for text |
| Type hierarchy | Sizes and weights for headings and body in both scripts, with fallbacks for email and office documents |
| Applications | Worked examples: business card, social post, email signature, signage, presentation slide |
| File index | Where every master file lives and which format to use for what |
For brand identity design, Dubai projects follow the same six stages: Brief, Proposal, Create, Review, Deliver, Improve. After guidelines are delivered, the first applications show whether the system holds up. Most businesses start with stationery such as business card design, an email signature and a set of social media templates. Product companies move on to packaging design. If you need just the mark and its full file pack, see logo design, and for Arabic copy that matches the new voice, Arabic and English translation. All visual services are listed on the design services hub.

A logo is one asset. A brand identity is the full visual system around it: colours, typefaces in both scripts, layout rules, imagery direction and the guidelines that keep everything consistent. If you only need the mark and its file pack, our logo design service is the better fit.
Naming can be explored as part of strategy, but availability checks are a separate step. Trade name approval sits with your licensing authority and trademark searches with the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism, so any shortlist should go through those before design commits to it.
Rarely. We audit what customers already recognise, such as a colour or a symbol, and decide what to keep, refine or retire. Evolving a known asset is often wiser than replacing it.
A brand guidelines document, the logo and wordmark files in both languages, colour and type specifications, and templates for the first items you need, such as stationery or social posts. The exact list is written into your fixed quote.
Yes, that is what the guidelines are for. They are written for people who were not in the room, with exact colour values, spacing rules and examples of correct and incorrect use.
