A takeout menu is not a smaller copy of your dining room menu. It is read at home or in an office, days after the meal, by someone deciding whether to order from you again or scroll a delivery app instead. For restaurants, cloud kitchens and cafés in Dubai and across the UAE, the printed takeout menu is one of the few marketing pieces that physically reaches a customer who already likes your food, so it deserves its own design.

Our takeout menu design work for Dubai kitchens covers the menus that go into delivery bags, sit on counters for collection customers and go through letterboxes, and we supply artwork ready for the printer you choose. If you need the menu guests hold at the table, see dine in menu design. The full range of print work is on the print design hub.

Two channels

Delivery app listing versus a printed takeout menu

Many UAE restaurants sell through both. They do different jobs, and the printed piece is most useful when it does what the app cannot.

Each delivery platform publishes its own image and text requirements in its partner portal. We work to the specifications your account gives you rather than assuming them.

Content

What belongs on a takeout menu and what to leave off

Because a printed takeout menu cannot be edited once it is out in the city, good design in Dubai depends on getting the content decisions right the first time, more than on any other piece. Keep dish names identical to your app listing and your till, so a customer who asks for an item by its printed name finds it. Group items the way people order for delivery: meals and combos first, then sides, drinks and desserts, rather than the starter and main structure of a dining room.

Leave out anything that will be wrong in a month. Seasonal specials, limited offers and staff names belong on a separate slip or a sticker, not on a menu you print in thousands.

  • Ordering routes written in full, with +971 numbers and a working WhatsApp link
  • Delivery areas or branch coverage, so nobody orders from the wrong kitchen
  • Opening hours for delivery, which often differ from dine in hours
  • A short list of your best sellers, easy to reorder
  • A printed date or version code in small type, for your own stock control

Takeout menu brief checklist

  • Your delivery item list exactly as on the app and till
  • Which ordering routes you want to push
  • How it will be distributed: bag, counter, door drop or all three
  • Branches and their delivery zones
  • Quantity per run and the printer, if known
  • Languages needed
  • Whether prices appear, and for which channel

Formats

Takeout menu formats that fit a UAE delivery bag

Good takeout menu design for a Dubai kitchen follows how the menu is actually distributed. A piece too large for the bag gets folded by the rider, and a piece too flimsy ends up with the receipt in the bin.

Folded DL

A long, narrow leaflet that folds from a larger sheet. It slides into most bags, stands in a counter rack, and gives enough panels for a full delivery menu.

Small card insert

A single stiff card listing best sellers and a QR code. Useful for cloud kitchens with a long app menu where a full print version would never stay current.

Fridge magnet menu

A short menu on magnetic stock. It stays visible in a kitchen for months, so it should carry only items and routes that will not change.

Box sticker

A round or square label that seals the bag or box and carries the reorder route. It pairs with our food box design work.

Direct orders

QR codes and pricing on takeout menus in Dubai

The most common reason to print a takeout menu is to move repeat customers to a channel you control. A QR code is the shortest route, but only if it survives print. DENSO WAVE, the company that created QR Code, specifies a clear margin of four modules on every side of the symbol, so we never let a pattern, fold or photo run up to its edges. The link should open a phone page that goes straight to ordering, not your home page; our landing page design service can build that page.

In takeout menu design for Dubai venues, pricing needs care. Under Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on Consumer Protection, Article 8, price declarations must not be misleading, and the UAE Federal Tax Authority says prices advertised to consumers by a VAT registrant must include VAT. If direct prices differ from app prices, the printed menu should say which channel it covers.

Before you approve the print file

  • Scan the QR code from the proof with an iPhone and an Android phone
  • Tap every printed phone number and WhatsApp link from a colleague’s device
  • Check each item name against the live app listing
  • Confirm the fold does not cross the QR code or a price
  • Read the delivery zones aloud to someone at each branch

Connecting print to the rest of your delivery marketing

A takeout menu works best when the customer sees the same offer, colours and dish names everywhere they meet you. The artwork can be adapted into social media design for your Instagram grid, into ad design for paid campaigns aimed at your delivery radius, and onto the boxes and bags themselves. We move through Brief, Proposal, Create and Review with you, then Deliver press files named per branch and language so the printer runs exactly what you approved.

Tell us how your delivery orders come in today and where you want them to come from, and our takeout menu design team in Dubai will reply with a fixed written quote, scoped to that brief.

Frequently asked questions

Should we put different prices on the printed menu than on delivery apps?

That is a commercial decision for you, but the printed piece must make clear which channel its prices apply to. If a guest scans a QR code and sees a different figure, the menu has created a complaint. We add a short line such as prices valid for direct orders when you ask for it.

Can a takeout menu double as a door drop leaflet?

Often, yes, if the front works as a cold introduction for someone who has never ordered. A bag insert can assume the reader already knows you, whereas a door drop cannot. We usually design one layout with two front panels to cover both uses.

How do we track orders that come from the printed menu?

Give the printed piece its own route: a dedicated QR link with a campaign tag, a WhatsApp message that starts with a code word, or a promo code that only appears in print. Your ordering system or website analytics can then count them separately.

Can you also design our delivery app banner and item photos?

We can design banners and graphics to the dimensions your delivery platform gives you, so they match the printed menu. Food photography is not part of this service, and the platform's own content rules still apply to anything uploaded.
