The questions, PDF/X settings and final checks that turn artwork into files a printer in Dubai can run without calling you back.

Branded DL, C5 and C4 envelopes designed around your letterhead, with window positions, flap artwork and Arabic return addresses set up as print ready files for the printer you choose.
An envelope is the first thing a recipient sees before your letter, invoice, contract or invitation. It either looks like it came from a real company or it looks like something to open later. We design envelopes for businesses in Dubai and across the UAE as part of a stationery set, so the envelope, the letterhead inside it and the address on both line up exactly. We supply the artwork and specification; you order from the printer or envelope supplier you prefer.
This page covers envelope sizes and what fits in each, window positions, what can be printed where on a made up envelope, and the content to prepare. See the print design hub for the other stationery pieces.
Sizes
The C series and DL envelope sizes were set out in ISO 269. ISO has since withdrawn that standard, but the sizes remain the everyday trade names printers and stationers use across the UAE. They are designed around ISO 216 A series paper, so an A4 letter folded the right way fits without forcing.
| Envelope | Size | Holds | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| DL | 110 × 220 mm | A4 folded in three, or a DL flyer | Everyday business letters, invoices, statements |
| C6 | 114 × 162 mm | A4 folded twice, or A6 flat | Greeting cards, compliments slips, small inserts |
| C5 | 162 × 229 mm | A4 folded once, or A5 flat | Invitations, A5 booklets, short reports |
| C4 | 229 × 324 mm | A4 flat, unfolded | Contracts, certificates, tender submissions, profiles |
Confirm stock sizes with your supplier. Pocket and wallet styles of the same size open on different edges, which changes where artwork can go.
Windows
Good envelope design for Dubai offices starts with the window: it only works if the recipient address on the folded letter sits behind it every time. That means the letterhead and envelope have to be designed as a pair. We take the window size and position from the envelope your supplier stocks, then place the address block on the letterhead template so a standard fold brings it into view.
Check the fold too. A DL window envelope expects A4 folded into three equal panels, with the address on the top panel. If staff fold letters in half and then in half again, they will need a C6 or a different window position. Test a printed letter in a sample envelope before ordering in quantity, and hold it up to the light to see if anything confidential shows through.
Artwork areas
Envelopes are either overprinted after they are made or printed as flat sheets and then cut and glued. The route changes the design.
The common route for envelope design in Dubai business stationery. Printing stays away from the edges and seams, because a press cannot print evenly across the raised, layered paper where flaps overlap. A logo and return address on the front top corner or on the back flap is the usual layout.
Needed when colour covers the whole envelope or runs over the flap and inside. The artwork is laid out on the unfolded shape, called a die line, supplied by the converter. It suits invitations and launch mailings more than daily post.
Leave a clean area for the recipient address and for postage or a courier label. Busy patterns behind an address make handwriting and printed labels harder to read.
Peel and seal strips, self seal or gummed flaps, white wove, kraft or textured stock. Each affects how ink sits, so we confirm the envelope type with your supplier before the artwork is finished.
Two languages
Arabic reads right to left, as the W3C Arabic layout requirements set out, so on a bilingual envelope the Arabic company name and address naturally align to the right edge while English aligns to the left. On a narrow DL flap there is rarely room for both side by side; the cleaner solution is often English on the front corner and Arabic on the flap, or two short stacked lines centred on the flap.
Postal details such as a P.O. Box number and emirate are best written the same way on the envelope, letterhead and business card. We copy them once from an approved source and reuse them across the set so a courier never sees two versions of your address.
Invitations for a launch, a Ramadan iftar or a year end dinner deserve a different treatment from invoice envelopes. Coloured or lined envelopes, a printed flap motif, or a wax style seal sticker can make the envelope part of the gift. These pair naturally with certificates posted to award winners and with corporate gift packs, where the envelope carries the card that goes inside the box.
Envelope design projects for Dubai clients are priced as a fixed written quote, scoped to your brief. You receive an artwork PDF for each envelope size, built to your supplier’s template, with the print area and any window marked clearly.

We do not print, but we can prepare an overprint file for plain envelopes you already have. Tell your printer the envelope size and type first, since not every press or printer can feed made up envelopes.
An A4 booklet sent flat needs a C4 envelope; an A5 booklet fits a C5. Allow for thickness if the booklet is heavy, and ask the printer or envelope supplier whether a gusseted or board backed option is better.
Neither is more professional by default. Windows save time and avoid mismatched letters and addresses when a company posts regularly. Plain envelopes look more personal for invitations and signed letters.
For government, bank and local corporate recipients, bilingual return details are a sensible default. For international mailings, English alone on the front is usually clearer, with Arabic kept on the flap.
