Ecommerce stores in Dubai face an SEO problem that brochure websites do not. A catalogue of a few hundred products, combined with filters for size, colour, brand and price, can produce many thousands of URLs. Most of them are near duplicates, and Google spends its crawling on those instead of on the new collection you launched this week. Meanwhile the category pages that should rank for buying searches often carry nothing but a product grid.

Our ecommerce SEO service for Dubai and UAE retailers deals with those structural issues first, using Google’s published guidance for ecommerce sites, and then improves the pages that bring in revenue. It is for your own store. Marketplace listings are covered separately under Noon store SEO and Amazon store SEO.

Every engagement starts with a crawl of the store compared against what Search Console says Google has found and indexed. The gap between the two is usually where the problems are: thousands of filter pages discovered, key categories crawled rarely, products indexed under several addresses. You receive that picture in plain language before any fix is proposed. For the wider approach to search, see our SEO services within web services.

Page types

Ecommerce SEO: category pages and product pages do different jobs

Treating them the same is a mistake we see often in ecommerce SEO for Dubai stores.

Category pagesProduct pages
Search intentBroader buying searches such as “women’s abayas” or “office chairs”Specific searches naming a model, brand or exact item
What helps themA short, useful introduction, clear subcategory links, sensible default sorting, crawlable paginationUnique description, full specifications, sharp images, price, availability, delivery and returns details
Common faultEmpty grid with no text, or a block of keyword text pushed below the productsManufacturer copy pasted across every store selling the same item
Structured dataBreadcrumb markupProduct markup with offer details, plus breadcrumbs

Faceted navigation

Ecommerce SEO: controlling filter URLs before they eat your crawl

In ecommerce SEO for Dubai stores, Google’s documentation describes faceted navigation as a common source of overcrawling, because filters can create an effectively infinite number of URLs. Its guidance offers clear options. If filtered URLs do not need to appear in search, block them from crawling with robots.txt, or implement filters with URL fragments, which Google generally does not crawl. Filter combinations that return no products should respond with a 404 status rather than an empty page.

Where some filtered pages genuinely deserve to rank, for example a brand within a category that people search for, we make those into proper landing pages with their own clean URL, heading and copy, and keep the rest out of the crawl. Canonical tags pointing to the unfiltered page and nofollow on filter links are weaker options Google also lists, useful when the preferred ones are not possible on your platform.

Filter audit questions

  • How many filter URLs has Google already discovered?
  • Which filter combinations have real search demand?
  • Are parameters always in the same order?
  • Do empty combinations return a 404?
  • Are sort and view options creating new URLs?
  • Do internal links ever point to tracking parameters?

URLs and variants

Ecommerce SEO for product variants and URL structure

Stores selling the same item in several sizes or colours have to decide how variants are addressed. Google’s URL guidance for ecommerce sites supports either a path segment or a query parameter for each variant, and recommends using the base product URL as the canonical so Google understands the variants belong together. It also warns that Google does not use fragment identifiers in indexing, so variants separated only by a fragment look identical to it.

The same guidance says to avoid internal links to temporary parameters such as session IDs or tracking codes, and to use one consistent URL for each page across internal links, sitemaps and canonical tags. Campaign tags for email and ads belong only in the links you send out, never in your own navigation.

URL rules we apply

  • One indexable URL per product
  • Variants canonicalised to the base product
  • Readable words in category and product paths
  • No session or tracking parameters in internal links
  • Same URL used in sitemap, canonical and menus
  • Permanent redirects when products are renamed

Structured data

Ecommerce SEO product markup for richer results in Google

Structured data is a core part of ecommerce SEO for Dubai stores, helping Google read price, availability and reviews directly from your product pages.

Merchant listings

For pages where customers can buy. Google requires the product name, image and an offer with price and currency, and recommends availability, GTIN, shipping details, return policy and ratings. This is the markup most stores need.

Product snippets

For pages that discuss products without selling them, such as reviews or comparison guides. These support extra review details like pros and cons, useful for buying guides on your blog.

Prices and availability in markup must match what shoppers see on the page. We validate markup on templates and spot check live pages after every platform or theme update.

Frequently asked questions

Does ecommerce SEO work on Shopify and WooCommerce?

Yes, both can be optimised well, but each platform has its own habits around duplicate paths, archive pages and how much URL control you get. The audit tells you which of these affect your store and what can be changed within the platform.

Is this the same as optimising our Amazon or Noon listings?

No. Marketplace search runs on its own ranking systems and listing fields, which we cover separately. This service is about your own store appearing in Google Search, where you keep the customer relationship and the margin.

We have thousands of products. Where do you start?

With the templates, not individual products. Fixing the category template, the product template and the filter URLs improves every page built from them at once. Individual copy work then goes to the categories and products that earn the most revenue.

What happens to SEO when a product goes out of stock?

If it will return, keep the page live, mark availability correctly in structured data and suggest alternatives. If it is gone for good, redirect to the closest replacement or its category, or let it return a 404 if nothing relevant exists.

Can you also write our product descriptions?

Yes, through our copywriting team, in English and Arabic. For large catalogues we usually start with a template and guidance for your team, then write the priority products ourselves.
