ABAP versus Fiori or UI5
ABAP is mostly backend logic that runs inside the SAP system. Fiori and UI5 build the screens people actually look at. A project touching both needs both skills, whether from one senior developer or two.
SAP
ABAP, Fiori, UI5, S/4HANA and HANA specialists, plus the consultants who configure and run SAP, as a dedicated hire, a scoped project, recruitment support or consulting.
SAP, described on its own company information page as a global provider of enterprise applications and business software, runs finance, supply chain, HR and customer facing processes inside a large share of the world’s bigger companies and a growing number of Dubai and UAE businesses. When a business wants to hire SAP developers in Dubai, the request usually falls into one of a handful of distinct jobs: writing or changing the custom code inside an SAP system, building the screens and apps people actually use, working on the S/4HANA product itself, or working with the HANA database underneath it. Each of those is a different skill, and this category is organised so you can pick the one that matches your brief rather than a generic “SAP developer” label.
The roles below range from ABAP, the language most custom SAP logic is still written in, through Fiori and UI5, the technologies behind SAP’s modern app interfaces, to S/4HANA and HANA specialists who work closer to the platform and the data layer. Further roles in this category cover SAP Business Technology Platform, integration, Basis, and the functional and technical consultants who configure SAP without necessarily writing code. If you already know which of these fits, go straight to that role’s page; if not, the table below and the FAQ answer the question we hear most, which is simply “which SAP person do we actually need.”
By role
Sixteen roles, grouped by where each one sits in a typical SAP landscape.
| Role | What they do | When you need one |
|---|---|---|
| SAP Developer | General custom development across an SAP system, spanning ABAP, Fiori and integrations | You have SAP work to scope out and are not yet sure which specialism it needs |
| SAP ABAP Developer | Custom reports, enhancements and backend logic written in ABAP | An existing SAP process needs code changed, extended or built from scratch |
| SAP Fiori Developer | Role based apps built on SAP’s Fiori design system and launchpad | Staff need a simpler, modern interface for a specific SAP task |
| SAP UI5 Developer | Custom, freestyle apps built directly in the SAPUI5 JavaScript framework | A Fiori app template does not cover what you need, so it has to be built by hand |
| SAP S/4HANA Developer | Extensions, CDS views and custom logic built specifically for S/4HANA | Your business is moving to, or already runs, S/4HANA rather than an older SAP release |
| SAP HANA Developer | Native database development, calculation views and query performance on SAP HANA | Reports or queries against SAP data are slow, or a project needs data modelled at the database layer |
| SAP BTP Developer | Extensions and integrations built on SAP Business Technology Platform, outside the core system | You want to customise SAP without changing code inside the core system itself |
| SAP Integration Developer | Connections between SAP and other systems, such as an ecommerce platform or a bank | SAP needs to exchange data automatically with a system outside SAP |
| SAP Basis Consultant | System administration: installation, upgrades, performance and access | The SAP landscape itself, rather than its code, needs attention |
| SAP Technical Consultant | Broad technical work across code, interfaces and system setup | A project needs one technical lead across several of the areas above |
| SAP Functional Consultant | Configures SAP modules to match business processes, largely without code | A process such as procurement or finance needs to be set up or changed in SAP |
| SAP Solution Architect | Designs how SAP modules and surrounding systems fit together | A major SAP project needs a target design before work starts |
| SAP CRM Developer | Custom work on SAP’s customer relationship management components | Sales, service or marketing processes inside SAP need development work |
| SAP ERP Developer | Development across SAP’s core ERP modules generally | The work spans several ERP modules rather than one specific product |
| SAP Business One Developer | Development and customisation on SAP Business One, SAP’s product for smaller companies | Your business runs SAP Business One rather than S/4HANA or ECC |
| Certified SAP Developer | Explains what an SAP certification proves and how to check one | You want to understand or verify an SAP certification named in a CV |
Choosing between close roles
A handful of pairs on this page look similar from outside SAP but are genuinely different jobs.
ABAP is mostly backend logic that runs inside the SAP system. Fiori and UI5 build the screens people actually look at. A project touching both needs both skills, whether from one senior developer or two.
Fiori is the design system and set of ready made app templates. UI5 is the underlying framework, used when a screen needs to be built freehand rather than from a template. If in doubt, start on the Fiori page.
S/4HANA is the application, the business logic and screens your staff use. HANA is the database underneath it. An S/4HANA developer works on the application; a HANA developer works closer to the data itself.
Ways of working
Most roles on this page fit as a dedicated developer who joins your team on a monthly basis for ongoing work, or as a scoped project with a defined start and finish, such as one new Fiori app or one integration. Recruitment support fits well for a permanent SAP hire you want to keep on your own payroll, and we run the technical assessment as part of that. Consulting fits best for architecture and solution design roles, or a second opinion before a large SAP change goes ahead. Whichever way you hire SAP developers in Dubai, the scope is agreed in writing before work starts. Businesses that hire SAP developers in Dubai through recruitment support keep the person on their own payroll once we have sourced and assessed them.

Straight answers
Tell us what the work involves rather than the job title you have seen elsewhere. A change to existing screens or reports usually needs an ABAP developer. A new mobile friendly app usually needs a Fiori or UI5 developer. A move to S/4HANA or a performance problem in the database usually needs an S/4HANA or HANA specialist. We match the brief to the right role.
No. We are a digital agency that provides SAP developers and consultants for your project, we are not an SAP reseller or licence holder, and you do not need to hold any partner status either to work with us.
Some senior developers cover all three at a working level, particularly on smaller SAP landscapes. For a demanding project we would usually recommend matching the specialism to the task, since a strong ABAP developer is not automatically strong at Fiori app design, and the reverse is just as true.
No. SAP Business One is a separate, smaller product aimed at growing businesses, with its own developer role listed in this category, distinct from S/4HANA or ECC work.
Yes, this category includes functional and technical consultants alongside developers, because a real SAP project usually needs both configuration knowledge and custom code.
Describe the SAP product and version already in use or planned, whether the work is custom code, a new interface, an integration or a system move, and roughly how large the landscape is. A short call fills the rest, and you receive a written fixed price proposal scoped to that brief.
