Eligibility, reach beyond the UAE, catalogue control, language and marketing tools compared from each marketplace's own seller documentation, without the guesswork.

Most UAE businesses should not pick between noon and Amazon.ae on reputation. The better question is which marketplace’s rules fit the products you sell, the stock model you can run and the markets you want next. noon makes it simple to reach Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries from a UAE store and gives brand owners tight control of their own Seller SKUs. Amazon.ae shares one detail page between sellers, gates some categories behind approval, and ties its brand advertising tools to Brand Registry.
This guide compares the two on the points that change a seller’s decision, using each marketplace’s own documentation as of September 2026. It deliberately leaves out fees and commissions, which both platforms publish separately and revise.
Key points
Neither noon nor Amazon is open to an unlicensed side business in the UAE. noon’s “Who can sell on noon?” page lists three seller categories: local sellers registered in the country where they sell, international sellers registered elsewhere, and individual sellers, available in Egypt only. A local seller’s trade licence or commercial registration must include at least one of these activities: sales, trading, manufacturing, or distribution and wholesale, with at least 30 days of validity left when submitted. International sellers must hold a VAT certificate from the country they want to sell in.
Amazon’s UAE seller site says a commercial licence is mandatory for businesses operating in the UAE, and asks applicants to prepare a business email or customer account, a phone number, a national ID such as an Emirates ID, a recent bank statement, credit card statement or utility bill, commercial registration or a power of attorney, and a bank account for proceeds.
If your licence activities do not include trading or sales, fix that first. It is a faster conversation with your licensing authority than with a marketplace’s onboarding team.
This is where noon and Amazon UAE differ most for a Dubai based seller, and it is often the deciding factor.
noon describes a GCC cross border programme that enrols active UAE sellers automatically if they have a valid, approved UAE VAT registration and listings fulfilled by noon (FBN) or through FBP DirectShip Express. Eligible listings are shown to customers in Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait, noon handles international shipping, customs clearance and last mile delivery, and orders appear in Seller Lab like domestic ones. Every listing needs a correct Harmonized System (HS) code, and noon says it is not liable for delays caused by missing or incorrect codes.
For Saudi Arabia, noon runs a separate UAE to KSA lane as an opt out programme. Its onboarding guide says eligible UAE sellers can sell into KSA without a KSA trade licence or KSA VAT registration; noon creates the KSA store, but products stay offline until the seller’s signatories sign the KSA terms and each product has a 12 digit HS code and a country of origin.
Amazon handles this through accounts and listing tools. Amazon’s Middle East global selling page explains that UAE and Saudi Arabia accounts are created through the Sell Globally dashboard in Seller Central, and Amazon’s UAE listing guide describes Build International Listings, which replicates and synchronises offers across marketplaces. Sellers remain responsible for VAT and customs compliance in each country they sell into.
If Saudi Arabia is part of next year’s plan, compare the expansion paths before you compare anything else.
On both noon and Amazon UAE, the catalogue model decides how much of a listing is truly yours.
noon distinguishes noon SKUs from Seller SKUs. Its content quality page says a Seller SKU puts the seller fully in charge of the content, only the seller who created it may sell it, and noon does not modify that content, although it can reject it. Size, colour and other variations can be added only to products of your own brand that nobody else trades, and to Seller SKUs you created yourself. For a brand owner who sells exclusively, that is a lot of control. For a reseller of popular brands, it means listing against existing catalogue entries.
Amazon’s product detail pages are shared. Its image guide says uploading an image does not assure it will be shown, because Amazon selects and arranges images from multiple selling partners. Most products are identified by a GTIN such as an EAN or UPC, with an exemption process for products without one, and some brands and categories require approval first. Amazon’s category overview marks Watches, for example, as requiring approval, and lists several categories where certain sub categories do.
| Question | noon | Amazon.ae |
|---|---|---|
| Can other sellers sell on my product page? | Not on a Seller SKU you created | Yes, offers from several sellers can share one detail page |
| Are my images always shown? | Content is yours but passes noon’s quality check | Amazon chooses from images supplied by selling partners |
| Who can create variations? | Own brand products not traded by others | Parent and child listings under Amazon’s category templates |
| Category gating | Prohibited and restricted items lists apply | Some categories and sub categories need approval |
On the Arabic storefront question, comparing noon and Amazon UAE, noon is specific. Its content language page says English content is mandatory for the UAE and must be approved before a product can go live, Arabic is optional but at least an Arabic title is advised, and a product with English content only might be shown on the English site and hidden from the Arabic one. noon does not translate seller content.
Amazon’s pages we reviewed do not set out an equivalent rule for Amazon.ae. Its Middle East selling page for international sellers describes the UAE store as an English language experience. If Arabic content matters to your category, check the category style guide inside Seller Central before planning a translation budget. For how Arabic copy should be approached on either platform, our guide to translation or transcreation for Arabic marketing copy explains which fields must stay literal.
Amazon’s UAE advertising page lists Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and Stores. A professional seller account is needed for all of them. Sponsored Products also need the offer to be eligible for the Featured Offer, and Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and Stores require enrolment in Amazon Brand Registry. A reseller without brand rights is therefore largely limited to Sponsored Products.
noon ads is described as a self serve platform in Ad Manager. For businesses that also advertise on Google, Meta or TikTok, noon’s External Ads Tracker is useful: it generates tagged links to a noon store, listing page or product page, and credits sales on a last touch basis within a 14 day window, counting only sessions longer than 3 seconds. That lets you judge whether off platform campaigns pointed at noon are paying their way.
If your ad budget goes mainly to Google Ads management or social campaigns, the ability to measure marketplace sales from those clicks should weigh in your choice.
Both noon and Amazon UAE offer fulfilment by the platform and by the seller, compared in detail on our ecommerce marketplace services hub. A few points go beyond that comparison:
| Your situation | Where to start |
|---|---|
| You own an exclusive brand and want tight content control | noon Seller SKUs, then Amazon once the trademark and Brand Registry are in place |
| You resell well known brands that already have listings | Check brand approval on Amazon and existing catalogue matches on noon before choosing |
| You plan to sell into Saudi Arabia or the wider GCC soon | Compare noon’s automatic lanes with Amazon’s linked accounts; confirm VAT registration first |
| Your category is gated on Amazon | Apply for approval in parallel and launch where you are already eligible |
| Most of your marketing budget runs outside the marketplaces | Weigh noon’s External Ads Tracker against the measurement options available to you on Amazon |
Many sellers end up on both noon and Amazon UAE. When you do, keep one master product sheet with identical names, dimensions and identifiers, and produce platform specific content from it. Our product listing checklist for noon and Amazon.ae shows the fields that differ, and online sellers should also read UAE VAT tax invoice requirements for online stores.
Marketplace rules and programmes change without notice. Everything above reflects the noon Seller Help Center and Amazon seller pages as read in September 2026. Confirm current terms in each platform before registering, and take tax advice on VAT and cross border sales.
We are an independent agency, not a partner of noon or Amazon UAE, and we cannot influence approvals, rankings or which offer wins. What we can do is help you prepare: checking registration documents, mapping your catalogue to each platform’s rules, and planning Arabic and English content.
Ongoing account work is covered by noon seller account management and Amazon seller account management, and listing content by noon store SEO and Amazon store SEO. Tell us which marketplace you are weighing and a written fixed price proposal follows.
Straight answers
We do not compare fees or commissions in this guide, because both marketplaces publish them by category and change them. Model your own products against each platform's current fee pages, including fulfilment and advertising, before deciding.
Often, but not always. The two platforms set different image rules; noon, for example, accepts JPEG files only and recommends a light grey primary background for fashion, while Amazon's UAE beginner's guide asks for images against a plain white background. Shoot once with both specifications in the brief and export separate sets.
Not to start selling. On Amazon, Brand Registry needs a pending or registered trademark and the brand permanently on the product or packaging, and it is the route to Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and Stores. On noon, Seller Lab shows a brand approval status for each Seller SKU, which matters most when you list under a new brand.
Neither publishes shopper language data we could cite. What noon does publish is that English only products may be hidden from its Arabic site, so on noon the Arabic content decision directly affects where you appear.
No. We are not a partner of either marketplace and have no special access. We prepare accurate documents and compliant content so applications and listings are less likely to be sent back.
